Martin's Cove
There are three beautiful statues of the rescuers overlooking the Sweetwater. They really make you think.
Devil's Gate from the Visitor's Center
One of the statues looking back towards the Cove.
Devil's Gate early in the morning coming from Casper. It was a beautiful morning and there were antelope everywhere. I mean hundreds and hundreds of them.
Martin's Cove where the handcart pioneers waited out the storm.
Across the ravine where they buried their dead. They could hear the wolves come down off the rocks.
We even did a woman's pull. That's me in the turquoise shirt.
The missionaries were so fun and told such faith inspiring stories.
And there was music everywhere.
They entertained us before dinner. You could tell they have so much fun together. Gary and I want to serve a mission there when we grow up.
I am so thankful and very excited for this new calling. I have needed something to do for quite a while (just ask my kids about that) so I look forward to this project. I have a deep love for this place and a great respect for those who suffered there for the gospel's sake. It was nice to know our legacy lives on. The first thing they do is show you an orientation video. They've put clips from some of the trek videos together. Right after there is clip of the Cove and Pres. Hinckley speaking, it shows our Bishop talking about the trek of life and shows our ward trekking. Later in the video it shows our Mormon Battalion call out and our women's pull. That was cool to see. I often ask myself would I would be willing to do the same to follow the Prophet and gather to Zion? I hope you'll share any ideas with me about "trekking". Can't wait to do it all again!
